The WNC Emergency Preparedness Workshop for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind Communities is an interactive educational event designed to help participants prepare for natural disasters and emergencies. Led by Donna Platt, Deaf Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH), this workshop will cover practical strategies for responding to emergencies such as hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, fires, and landslides. Participants will learn how to create emergency plans, protect themselves, their families, and their homes, and become better prepared for future disasters. The workshop was developed in response to lessons learned following Hurricane Helene and will include engaging discussions, light refreshments, American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, CART services, and additional accommodations upon request. This Deaf emergency preparedness workshop in Asheville, NC is an excellent opportunity for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind community, families, interpreters, and service providers to gain life-saving preparedness skills and strengthen community resilience. RSVP is required by October 2, 2026, and there is no cost to attend.
