Event Description
Mid-State Region NCRID invites ASL interpreters, interpreting students, and professionals who engage with the Deaf community to this powerful workshop exploring the intersection of neurodiversity, lived experience, and bias within the interpreting field. Through personal storytelling and professional insight as a Black, neurodivergent interpreter, Renee Phillips guides participants in examining identity, access, self-awareness, and how unconscious bias impacts interpreting work.
This session provides practical strategies to recognize and navigate bias, support neurodivergent Deaf and hearing consumers more effectively, and promote equitable interpreter practice. Participants will leave with expanded tools for cultural humility, reflective practice, and professional growth—making this a meaningful opportunity for anyone committed to improving sign language interpreting through inclusion and awareness.
