From A (Audism) to Z (Zenith): My Personal Experience as a DeafBlind Individual is an educational Deaf community event featuring Dr. Victorica "Dr. V" Monroe, a DeafBlind scholar and educator, who will share personal and professional insights on the educational experiences of DeafBlind, Deaf, and Hard of Hearing individuals. The presentation will explore topics including audism, language access, language acquisition, communication, and the lived experiences of the DeafBlind community. Following the lecture, attendees will enjoy a screening of Signing Black in America, an award-winning documentary highlighting the history, culture, and linguistic significance of Black American Sign Language (BASL). This Deaf education event, ASL community event, and DeafBlind awareness program is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members interested in learning more about accessibility, Deaf culture, DeafBlind experiences, and communication access.
