ASL Hike & Sign at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation invites the community to enjoy the outdoors during ASL Hike & Sign at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve in Mint Hill, North Carolina. This free Deaf and ASL community event combines nature, social connection, and American Sign Language for an inclusive afternoon on the trails.

Participants are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch, meet new friends, and connect with Stevens Creek Nature Center staff before heading out on a 1.5- to 2-mile guided hike along the Heelsplitter and Sawmill Trails. The hike includes varied surfaces and inclines. Nature center staff will also provide a preview of upcoming outdoor adventures.

The program is designed especially for the Deaf community and ASL users, but everyone is welcome, including those who are fluent in ASL, currently learning, or simply interested in joining the experience. A certified ASL interpreter will be present, and nature center staff will communicate using spoken English and basic ASL to support an accessible and welcoming environment.

Registration is required because space is limited. The program is free and open to all ages.
